Well, it’s been over a year of physical therapy for my horse (suspensory ligament problems, really nasty leg injury, and recovery from both), but I was finally able to canter her this week!
A few more weeks of cantering, and we’ll be able to put her out in the field with her “sister” and the other girls. Finally!

Right of First Cup
Normally, “poaching” a cup of coffee from the office coffee urn while it’s still brewing is a flagrant coffee foul.
However, there is the little-known, ancient (and just created) Jus Primae Vas, or “Right of First Cup.” The person who found an enpty urn, and started to brew the new urn, doesn’t have to wait for the brew to compete before grabbing a cupful and leaving for his next meeting.

I realized today that I have at least four camps of friends. When confronted with an undesirable situation (i.e., “I drank way too much last night”),
- Some say nothing. (The strong, silent type.)
- “I drank way too much last night.” (This person fits in with the rest of humanity.)
- “I threw a DrankTooMuchException.” (W00t! l33t programmer!)
- “I failed my saving throw vs. booze.” (D&D fan! Radical, dude!)

A terrific day at the office, topped with an excellent diner with the wife. Salmon-sweet potato hash, with leeks, red pepper, and crème fraîche. Mmm.
Sadly, it seems that the website that I got the recipe from, Klosekraft, has been taken over by a chimney-cleaning service. Perhaps someday I’ll type the recipe up and post it.
For now, know there are reasonable approximations on the web. For example, this recipe is similar. Cut the portions in half, and use dill to taste instead of thyme, and you’re in the ballpark.
I was too distracted by tastiness to take a picture. Again, maybe next time.
